SCRLA Hotel & Lodging Division Benefits

Dating back to 1947, the lodging division of the South Carolina Restaurant and Lodging Association offers a wealth of benefits for lodging operators.  SCRLA protects the rights and interests of the South Carolina lodging industry.  Legislative advocacy, educational training, communication, and cost-saving programs are provided for all segments of the industry. In addition, SCRLA supports strategic alliances to promote the value of South Carolina travel and tourism.

The SCRLA is the only and most influential lodging association in the state and is the only South Carolina lodging association affiliated with the American Hotel & Lodging Association.

American Hotel & Lodging Association Partner State Membership

The South Carolina Restaurant and Lodging Association is a partner state member of the American Hotel & Lodging Association, joining other state lodging association and hundreds of thousands of properties across the country.  The SCRLA and AH&LA together help lodging properties, management companies, RIETS and national brands save time and money and stay up to date on the latest news, research and trends in the lodging industry.  Together we advocate for favorable laws and regulations, to promote the industry, and to provide a network to meet their peers.

Local Membership

Lodging members also receive membership in our local partner associations, which include the Beaufort Area Chapter, the Charleston Area Hospitality Association,  Greater Columbia Hotel & Motel Association, the Florence Area Chapter, the Greater Greenville Chapter, the Hilton Head Island Bluffton Chapter, the L.U.C.C.Y. Chapter (Lancaster, Union, Chester, Chesterfield and York Counties) , or the Myrtle Beach Area Hospitality Association.

Governmental Affairs

SCRLA's advocacy mission is simple: We advocate for legislation, regulations, resources, and a business climate that will promote a strong, vibrant, and growing lodging and tourism industry within South Carolina. Our goal, both current and historic, is to promote and ensure the success of lodging industry operators. We accomplish this goal through:

  • Passing needed legislation;
  • Killing detrimental bills that are proposed, advocating on regulatory issues at the federal, state, and local levels; and
  • Topical programming, educational events and written resources on all of the top issues facing lodging operators.

At the national level, SCRLA is a partner with the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA) to ensure that the South Carolina lodging industry is represented in Washington D.C.

We have contract lobbyists representing the industry at the State House in Columbia and with various regulatory agencies to stand watch on issues that may impact our industry.  Click here for more information.

Educational Resources

Free or discounted workshops and seminars (ServSafe, Labor Laws, Yield Management); School-to-Work Program; Training and Video Library.  Members also receive the benefits, by way of access and discounts on products from the Educational Institute of the American Hotel & Lodging Association.

Stars of the Industry Awards

Each year our association recognizes individuals and companies that make significant contributions to our industry, our state and nation that make the lodging industry a better place to work.

Hospitality Day at the State House

Every April, the SCRLA and all local hospitality related associations, host the General Assembly to a Taste of South Carolina during our annual legislative luncheon.  This one-day event shows lawmakers the importance of our industry, while showcasing two dozen participating member restaurants and hotels.

The Association's website allows easy access to membership benefits and services. Also receive a free link to your own website under our membership listings. Members have access to the members-only section, which amongst other things, contains any entire section on laws and regulations impacting the hospitality industry.

Unity for Strength

The combined voice of our members is far more influential than any single individual at both the legislative and regulatory levels. Together we can achieve what would be impossible on our own. Governmental Affairs Page

Networking

In addition to local chapter or partner meetings, the SCRLA holds statewide events where hotel and restaurant operators from all across South Carolina come together with their suppliers for such functions as our statewide golf tournament, Hospitality Day at the State House and the Stars of the Industry Awards luncheon.
