Labor law: What you need to know about overtime, tipping and more

The US Department of Labor along with the the Greater Charleston Restaurant Association, the Charleston Area Hospitality Association and the SC Restaurant and Lodging Association will hold an informational seminar to help the industry learn how to comply with labor laws on October 7th. The seminar runs from 9 AM - 12 PM at the Marriott Hotel.

The seminar will cover:
•    Minimum wage standard

•    Gratuity including tip pools and "tip outs"
•    Overtime calculation to include the New federal rule for overtime*
•    Recordkeeping (notices, hours worked, tips, payroll)
•    Child labor (youth under age 18)
•    Hourly and Salary Bonus rules

The Department’s Final Rule, which directs which salaried employees must receive overtime pay when working more than 40 hours in a workweek, was handed down on May 18 and becomes effective December 1, 2016.
