The pandemic shocked the hospitality industry and caused a shortage of employees during a critical time in recovery. Restaurants were extremely short-staffed, which meant restaurant owners were spending all their time working in the business and couldn’t be strategic. Restaurant managers and existing employees were overworked, and it all affected the guest experience. While the situation was unexpected for restaurant owners, it raised a lot of good points about what keeps employees in the hospitality industry. South Carolina is a national leader in growing a strong workforce through apprenticeship programs.  Apprenticeships provide a way for you to grown your own talent with highly-skilled youth and adults who understand and thrive in your organization's culture.  Apprenticeships allow you to design customized, on-the-job training that is paired with classroom instruction.  The hospitality and tourism industry is prime to take advantage of these opportunities that financially incentivize businesses to develop their own local talent pipeline.  Apprenticeship Carolina, the state's apprenticeship leader, will discuss how to start apprenticeships and describe the benefits and financial incentives for employers.  You will also hear from industry peers who are having great success with the program.
