The U.S. Small Business Administration is accepting applications for RRF grants. The online application window will remain open to any eligible establishment until all funds are exhausted.

The National Restaurant Association posted a complete Step-by-Step Guide on how to apply and offers a regularly updated RRFG FAQ to answer the most common questions operators have about the grant program. (You can submit questions to our FAQ email at rrf@restaurant.org).

One new clarification to note: Any Employee Retention Tax Credit received in 2020 will NOT be counted against a restaurant’s eligible grant amount. Additional economic relief such as state/local grants, EIDLs, EIDL advance grants, and other support also will NOT count for a restaurant’s 2020 “gross receipts” calculation in 2020.

Some Restaurants Can Get Priority Access to RRF Grants

SBA Administrator Isabella Guzman shared details on priority access to RRF grants in last week’s webinar co-hosted by the Multicultural Foodservice & Hospitality Alliance and the National Restaurant Association. Small businesses owned and controlled by women, veterans, and groups that are socially and economically disadvantaged are eligible for priority access to grants if their application is filed with SBA within the first 21 days of the application period, which opened May 3. Black Americans, Hispanic Americans, Native Americans, Asian Pacific Americans, and Subcontinent Asian Americans are among the groups with priority access. View the recording

Use Your POS System to Apply for RRF Grants

Part of the criteria needed to qualify for grants include gross receipts from 2019 and 2020. The SBA is partnering with approved POS vendors including Heartland Payment Systems to allow applicants to generate the required reporting and apply directly from their POS systems. Get details.

Employee Retention Tax Credit Extended Through 2021

One especially bright spot of the American Rescue Plan Act is the extension of the ERTC from June 30 of this year to December 31. Now, if you’re eligible, you can access ERTC for up to $7,000 per eligible employee per quarter for all of 2021, for a potential total credit of $28,000 per eligible employee. Read details.
