SCHA Partners with SCDPS on Designated Driver Holiday Promotion
To help combat drunk driving during the holiday season, the SC Department of Public Safety (SCDPS), in cooperation with the SC Hospitality Association, is launching a holiday-themed campaign in the Columbia area to promote designated drivers. The campaign is designed to complement safe ride services, such as those provided by taxi companies. The campaign will focus on television ads, electronic billboards and other ways to get the message out to holiday revelers and your restaurant or bar can take advantage of the publicity surrounding the campaign.
This campaign is open to any bar or restaurant in the Midlands of South Carolina.
SCDPS is the state agency for the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The SCDPS campaign, “Be a SANTA: Sober All Night Totally Awesome! Designated Driver,” will run from December 1 through January 1. The Columbia market will act as a pilot program to help SCDPS assess the campaign’s effectiveness and potential for going statewide next year.
With the cooperation of the SC Hospitality Association and its Columbia-area members, the campaign will reach out to patrons of restaurants and bars with a message that is fun, and potentially life-saving.
Drunk driving remains one of the top causes of traffic deaths in South Carolina. During the Christmas and New Year’s season, the danger increases because more people – including those who don’t drink regularly – risk dri ving impaired following holiday celebrations.
The “Be a SANTA” campaign will emphasize the importance of designated drivers choosing ahead of time to remain alcohol-free all night long. We hope patrons of local establishments will get into the spirit of the campaign. Our message is simple: Be a SANTA and give the gift of a safe ride home.
If your restaurant or bar would like to participate, FREE table tents and designated driver stickers are available. We will even deliver them to your restaurant or bar! All you have to do, is provide free non-alcoholic beverages to the designated driver in the group....a very inexpensive way to have an extremely positive public relations program to show your business' concern about public safety during the holidays!
Table tents are available in packs of 50; stickers are also available in packs of 50; and reusable employee buttons are available in packs of either 10 or 25.
