Things you need to know about overtime regulations, tipping policies and MORE...
The U.S. Department of Labor will present a comprehensive seminar on October 17th in Charleston to help the restaurant and hotel industry comply with labor laws. The three-hour seminar will start promptly at 9:00 a.m. at the Marriott Hotel, 170 Lockwood Blvd.
The seminar will cover:
• Minimum wage standard
• Gratuity including tip pools and "tip outs"
• Overtime calculation to include the New federal rule for overtime*
• Recordkeeping (notices, hours worked, tips, payroll)
• Child labor (youth under age 18)
• Hourly and Salary Bonus rules
The Department’s Final Rule, which directs which salaried employees must receive overtime pay when working more than 40 hours in a workweek, was handed down on May 18 and becomes effective December 1, 2016.
The seminar is hosted by the Greater Charleston Restaurant Association, The Charleston Area Hospitality Association and the South Carolina restaurant and Lodging Association in partnership with the US Department of Labor, South Carolina Field Office.
