In a public/private partnership with the South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce and SC Works, the South Carolina Restaurant and Lodging Association (SCRLA) co-hosted a virtual job fair for the hospitality and tourism industry on May 20.
More than 1,900 individuals registered to attend the virtual job fair, while more than 270 businesses set up virtual booths for interviews.
“We are absolutely elated with the overwhelming response from employers and jobseekers who participated in the Hospitality and Tourism Virtual Job Fair,” said John Durst, President and CEO of SCRLA. “It totally exceeded our expectations and will undoubtedly serve as a catalyst to assist more South Carolinians in finding career opportunities in our state’s $23.8 billion tourism industry which, at pre-pandemic levels, supported one in 10 jobs in our State and generated $1.8 billion in state and local taxes.”
Online job fairs are the next step in the evolution of hiring. While in person hiring events have served the hospitality industry well for years, in an effort to save time and resources, the SCRLA hosted a virtual event to help restaurant and hotel operators find the staff they need.
