Profile:
Mark Newman serves as President and CEO of the South Carolina Restaurant & Lodging Association (SCRLA), where he leads the organization’s efforts to support, advocate for, and elevate South Carolina’s hospitality industry.

Mark brings more than 25 years of leadership experience across hospitality, tourism, nonprofit, and public service organizations. His career has been rooted in helping communities grow through strong partnerships, thoughtful strategy, and a clear sense of purpose.

Before joining SCRLA, Mark served as Executive Director of Indiana Public Broadcasting Stations, Inc., a statewide association of 17 television and radio stations. There, he worked closely with policymakers, community leaders, and nonprofit partners to advance initiatives in education, public safety, and local journalism.

Prior to his leading IPBS, Mark led Visit Indiana as the state’s chief tourism executive for three Governors’ administrations, working alongside hospitality partners, destination organizations, and industry stakeholders to increase visitation and drive economic impact. His time in tourism—and his service on the board of the Indiana Restaurant & Lodging Association—gave him a deep appreciation for the vital role hospitality plays in strengthening communities and creating memorable experiences.

Mark’s professional background also includes leadership roles with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and Indiana Sports Corporation, where he helped grow audiences, elevate events, and bring people together around shared experiences. He began his career in athletics as a collegiate soccer coach, an experience that continues to shape his leadership style today—team-oriented, collaborative, and grounded in preparation and communication.

Mark is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts and the University of Virginia. He and his wife, Beth, enjoy traveling, exploring new places, and spending time outdoors. They are avid college sports fans, and Mark enjoys baking as a way to unwind, along with staying active through regular workouts. They have two grown children who live in Chicago. Mark and his family are excited to make South Carolina their new home.
